The Tree of Life takes the Palme d’Or

The Palme d’Or is the most coveted award in cinema.  It is awarded every year at the Cannes film festival.  This year it was given to director and writer Terrence Malick’s “The Tree of Life”.  The film starts Brad Pitt, Sean Penn and Jessica Chastain.

A synopsis about the film is below, taken from the official website for the film,

I enjoy watching films that do well at Cannes because it is a nice break from the often predictable results of the Academy Awards. In addition, it is more respectful towards films that are in other languages and made in other countries.  A list of all of the Palme winners are on Wikipedia.
